Malaysia Boleh?
Wah long time nv update liao.. :)
anyway, a few days ago (or weeks... i can't remember) i heard form the radio that reader digest has conducted a survey in 35 countries, testing which country is the most polite among them all... i bet you guys alraedy knew this, Malaysia got 3rd place.. :) 3rd most UN-polite country... =.='''
http://www.rd.com/content/openContent.do?contentId=27599&pageIndex=2
The magazine used 3 ways to test the courtesy of the country:
1. "door tests" (would anyone hold one open for them?)
2. "document drops" (who would help them retrieve a pile of "accidentally" dropped papers?)
3. "service tests" (which salesclerks would thank them for a purchase?)
63% of the malaysian walk pass those who are in need of help... so ask yourself... if someone did the above mentioned thing, will you act with courtesily? or will you became one of the majority in malaysia, pretend that you never see anything?
In my opinion, the survey aren't that reliable... reader digest has ignored all other elements that can affect the survey... It all depend on how's that country's culture... For malaysia, we won;t help anyone, UNLESS they ask us for help... i can;t say for the other races, but for chinese, we are not that bold, like the western people... even if we saw someone drop something, we will not approach them...
My father travel to China quite frequently (at least 1 time per month consider frequent or not?) anyway, from what he told me, the China people there have worst manner than us... He told me that the people there will not stop for you... if you're lost, good luck, 'cause no one will answer your question... But of course, They have thier own reason... according to my father, he said that China had so many con artist, if the advertisement board drop down from the sky, at least a hand ful of them will get squashed, and another handful of them watching, and another batch of them trying to con you by selling you talisman that can protect you from advertisement board...
anyway, yeah, i guess we malaysian are rude... we don't hold doors for other (we have automatic doors EVERYWHERE in KL so no point...) we don't help people pick up droped document (scare later people accuse us trying to steal thier stuff...) and of course, we don't have the habit to thank people after they made thier purchase (uh... he pay us to take our thing... he pay we sell... why thank him? it's a transaction... he dun owe us and we dun owe him... no reason to thank...)
As a malaysian, of course i'll try to help Malaysia regain it's face... first of all, let's compare to china (no offence to china man... i had limited knowledge and china is the only country i hear more frequent then malaysia...) if you ask help form them, they ignore you... if they offer you help without you asking them, THEN becareful... watch your wallet... But in malaysia, i dare to say that we WILL NOT (or rarely) stop and offer our help... but if you ask help from us, we WILL offer the best help we can give... here's some example...
snatch thieves: motorcyclist snatched your purse? shout HELP~~ no... superman won't come... he's american hero... he's too busy saving american... but instead, EVERY GUY in that area will grab what they can to help you get back your purse (or they purely wanna WHALLUP people...)
got lost?: just stop ANYWHERE (for safety purposes, find an area full with people) and ask... i got lost pretty frequently, and so far, EVERYONE i asked helped me... just remember to lock your door, and put that steering lock beside you...
on LRT: nenek, no place to sit ah? come come! here got sit! we won't actually hear that line in our LRT or KTM... mainly because we had TOO much space available... unless peak hour... and in peak hour, people, especially the young one WILL stand up and give that nenek his seat... how's that for politeness... :) (of course, maybe it's because during peak hour, more lenglui in the car, so can give them great first impression and strike a conversation with her... :D) oh yeah almost forgot this point... usually the people who need people give them seats don;t have to take LRT/KTM... they have family to fetch... for those who dun, and is poor, they dun have much reason to travel so far right? so it's not we are rude, it's we don;t have the chance to give your seat to other people...
in short, malaysian are rude, no doubt about it... but we are friendly... and i heard form someone that we malaysian have most vocab in bad words in the world... but we only use them to greet with friends... i bet you that no one in malaysia DARE to go up to stranger and use those words to them (of course, unless they are looking for trouble...) at least i use bad words VERY VERY frequently... infront of my friend lah of course... we use bad words to express our feeling etc... like when we are disappointed, we will shout "DIU!" look at it like you're shouting "GOAL" when italy beat france tonight... :D
hmmm abit off topic liao... anyway, i guess what i want to say in this post is that it's okay to be rude, because rude = open minded... we won't mind the details... imagine you walking to school, and you have to say good morning to EVERYONE you know... sial ah... haven't reach classroom then soar throat liao... =.='' it might seems rude to some, but sometime, over politeness will form a wall between you and other people, and the distand between you and other people will get furthur... open your heart... act naturally... politeness is a must, but not a neccesiti... don;t over do it... Politeness, it kills... (or is it drug? ah.. dun mind the detail...)
ooo almost my lecture time liao... in HELP library typing this... :) chao now... bye...
